What is Columbus Day and when is it happening?

Columbus Day is a national holiday in many countries in though its name varies depending on what country you live in. This day marks the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Considered a federal holiday in the U.S., it is observed by federal offices, banks, and post offices. This means there’s plenty of opportunities for workers to celebrate because they’ll get the day off. Some schools and districts also celebrate the holiday.

This year, Columbus Day will fall on a Monday. That’s October 8, 2018.
