Millennials are the largest living generation and form the largest demographic that we try to charm. Millennials offer a large market for us, and we try to get their attention and keep it to boost our sales and make returns each quarter. To do this, we have to use digital platforms because the young generation values social media.

very teenager and youth out there uses social media platforms to connect with friends, share pictures and videos and keep up with trends. As a retail store, we are forced to keep up with this trend as well if we want to connect with young shoppers. Solely selling our merchandise is no longer cutting it when it comes to gaining young customers.

We need to adjust and teach them how best we can, and this is through Instagram. Instagram is one of the most popular and best social media sharing platforms that is used by the young generation across the globe. To connect with young customers, shops and people have switched to using Instagram and creating visual moments that are Instagram-worthy.

The young generation usually gets to hear a brand through Instagram when pictures or videos are shared. We are using Instagram to create business profiles with visualized photos that are shared across the young generation to drive a conversation about our brand. We also use features that the young generation can relate to such as hashtags to share our pictures and videos.

The young generation does not respond to traditional marketing tactics and to further connect with them; we have to make them the stars of our brands. We do this by allowing them to share our pictures using our hashtag, and we share this on our marketing channels. Customers love feeling part of the brand, and we strive to make the young generation part of ours by reposting their pictures of them in our stores or using our items. This does not only bring our products to life, but it also increases our target audience because the followers of our followers see the posts.

Instagram has also unraveled three new shopping features that allow the young generation to find products and save them on their shopping collection. We have incorporated the use of these new features to provide our young audience with an online library that they can use when they want to buy from us. These features include:

Shopping collection feature

This feature allows our young audience to save products that are of interest on our page to purchase later on. When we post a picture, a user can tap the product tag and tap the save icon on the image to save the picture to their shopping collection.

Shop via a video

When we post a video, users can tap the shopping icon at the bottom left corner area of the video to get the products featured on the video. The feature also lists the prices of each product on the video.

Shop tab for business pages

We use a business profile page, and this feature allows users to browse for products that we offer and check out the features of each of our products.

These three new features that we use help us engage with the young audience daily by providing them with relevant information on products. This makes their online shopping experience much more accessible and increases our authenticity.

No doubt, Instagram is a must for business. In fact, many businesses have benefitted from it already like Puma, Subway, and Lenox.
